  1. Wishing you all the best of luck! Definitely brave for getting a second surgery so soon! I just had my DJS/Genioplasty revision yesterday, along with a hip graft. Went pretty well, except mine was from 2.5-3 years ago, so the plates were pretty well stuck in there in some spots (due to bone growing over them). However, you are going to do great! Any questions, feel free to PM me.

  2. Per my surgical instructions, bone grafts will not set if iced.

  3. Interesting. I am having a downgraft revision with a hip graft. I'm wondering if that is the standard norm and if I will be told that as well.

  4. YES!!!! This. It always happens to me. I literally just got braces on Thursday in preparation for my revision surgery, and the nerve pain that shoots up into my gums is unbearable, especially on one side. Technically, it's more sensitive in all 4 quadrants (near the molars), but my top left is unbearable. I just keep trying to brush as fast as possible, and just brace myself for when I have to get near the aforementioned areas.

  5. hi ! thanks so much for responding, it is really reassuring that its not a sign of something wrong ! I have it on one molar currently and its such an odd feeling. I hope that your pain improves fast!! <3

  6. You're welcome! Just an update...as of this evening, the top side that was in most pain has subsided (which I hope is permanent, given the amount of pain there was). The bottom molars now have the most pain. Just keep brushing and rinsing, and it will subside! Best of luck!

  7. Yes, please check out my previous posts. Have you previously said anything to your surgeon? You should not have waited this long to not have had any movement. You may have fibrous tissue over your joints, which means your tissue has scarred over, causing your jaw to not experience any lateral excursions or being able to "jut" it forwards. I had to have TMJ arthroscopy done, along with very rigorous physical and home therapy to regain my movements at 9 months post op. It was extremely taxing and took a lot of discipline. With no movements laterally or any protrusion, it is also very difficult and unnatural to eat, as you require fluid motion to chew properly, let alone speak.

  8. Hi there! Actually the nostrils didn't widen at all, as I had an alar cinch. With many upper jaw movements, nostrils do tend to get wider, but mine did not. What you see in the above picture is actually more of an "upturned" effect on my nose from the advancement. If you look closely, the nostrils actually became smaller, and the end of the nose (tip to face) actually became smaller, or shorter in distance. Hope this helps!

  9. Got it! Best of luck! My recommendation is to definitely do your research prior to committing!

  10. Primary insurance takes precedence. You must be approved through primary insurance. Secondary insurance does not usually require pre-authorization, as it follows whatever primary authorized. If it is a covered expense, it will cover up to the usual and customary amount of your benefit plan. It is hard to say what exactly it will cover, as every insurance is different.

  11. Oh man… I didn’t know that. I was hoping that if primary denies than secondary may be able to approve… thanks for this information…

  12. Every insurance carrier is quite different, so I would check with each one, just to make sure. Again, that is just a general statement. Secondary would have to read EOB from primary to make determination. Additionally, secondary does not usually make pre-authorizations (as they follow primary) so it would behoove you just to check in with secondary to see their policy. You never know!

  13. Great results! Curious...why a downgraft? Would it be possible to show a front pic with tooth display before and after?

  14. Yes, the last I heard from him was this past September when he reached out telling me that he was transitioning to opening his own center. He said he would be taking in-person visits in November, and he is very open to communicating via email.

  15. I don’t know. It might be as simple as it was within the 180 day window. I got multiple different explanations about what was going on, so I’ll probably never know. Also technically I applied before the forgiveness happened. Idk really.

  16. Can you please advise as to how and where you did an add-on from exactly? In other words, how/where did you add your ParentPlus loan from? Studentaid? Where exactly?

  17. For clarification, did you re-upload your PSLF application (employment verification) after you added the Parent Plus loan to your previous consolidation?

  18. So the phenomenon that OP is talking about is referred to as "auto rotation". This usually occurs when one jaw (presumably the maxilla) is rotated, say Clockwise (CW), and the mandible auto-rotates, or swings in the same fashion (CW). I don't know if it's a complete moving back idea as with a "setback", however, it can certainly decrease the volume of your airway, just as in a mandibular setback.

  19. Thank you. I'll need to think about this. I might need to go down the bimax route again.

  20. It’s very important that you meet with as many surgeons as you can. Usually, when they make their virtual plans, they can tell you exactly how much auto rotation will occur, allowing you to make an informed decision.

  21. Awesome! You will have a great outcome with that proposal!!! Best of luck 🤞. Should also be getting my confirmation on my plan early next week!

  22. Interesting topic! So I am currently looking at a revision and am glad I stumbled on this post. Originally, I had DJS with CCW (and a huge over-impaction for a non-gummy smile). My revision surgery was supposed to be soon (as in the coming weeks/month ahead). However, we are now looking at a possible lower premolar extraction on both sides in order to maximize the lower jaw advancement, while undoing the original genioplasty. Right now I am waiting on ceph tracings and some predictions from both ortho and surgeon to see if this will maximize the potential. I will say this- I am NOT a proponent of removing healthy teeth (especially since I've had them for 40+ years ☺️); however, in my case, it may be necessary due to the flaring of my lower incisors and otherwise lack of space. Ultimately, this may give us the best bang for our buck.

  23. I see. Sorry to hear that. Do you know how many millimeters of downgraft you will be getting? Yes, I also believe hip grafts provide the highest success rate.

  24. I will be having an 8mm downgraft (after being impacted 11mm). Also note— I never had a gummy smile! So you could just imaging how that turned out.

  25. Oh man.. that's crazy! Why did the surgeon impact you so much? Was this part of the initial plan, or did he improvise mid surgery?

  26. He put in the post op notes that I had a gummy smile. False. Never did. Pictures and scans can prove that.

  27. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. However, it's pretty rare that they do get covered. In my original surgery, the genioplasty was actually denied during pre-authorization. However, they ended up covering the cost post-surgery (again, not sure why).

  28. Yes, absolutely. They expect payment upfront because honestly, it is guaranteed if and what exactly your insurance will pay out. The doctor's office wants their money upfront, and they expect you to basically wait for the months that it may potentially take to get reimbursed. Definitely happens all the time. Try to see if you qualify for Care Credit, which is basically another credit card (or any other credit cards, for that matter).

  29. Any chance you can update on whether the loans were discharged. My spouse also just started the transfer from navient to fedloan.

  30. I’m in a similar situation. Yes, ED lets FedLoan know the effective discharge date, and based on many other posts on this sub, 2/14 is a discharge date given to many of us, including myself. Previously, there have been other discharge dates, including 1/10/22, which I was originally a part of (but due to issues, was not). My husband was a 1/10er and his loans were forgive at the end of January. So hold on tight, forgiveness is coming any day now! There is a group of us…

  31. This is awesome! Congratulations! Thank you for sharing. What a great relief and nice surprise this must have been early this morning!

  32. Hi can you give an update? How’s your opening now?

  33. Hi! Yes, I had posted in a different post. After a TMJ arthroscopy as well as rigorous therapy, I am able to open at least 3 fingers width and have pretty close to normal lateral and front to back movement. Took a lot, but I got there. Very rare occurrence.

  34. Wow!! That’s so intense. I am at 8 weeks and struggling with opening (at almost 2 fingers), chewing. I’m in PT as of 2 weeks ago. Just ready to be back to normal ugh

  35. It'll come! Just make sure you are able to move at least a little bit in all directions. Normal will come, just be patient!

  36. YES! It's coming...just now I just relogged in, and guess what??? TROPHIES APPEARED! Any day now :) Super exciting!

  37. That’s awesome! I went from 9 qualifying to 92 this morning! I have 54 that need employment certification (which they already have the ECFs for). Any day now is right, Congratulations in advance!

  38. Yesterday my balance shot up by 14k. Then today my balance is 0. But no letter and the progress toward PSLF page is not working. Is it safe to assume my loans are forgiven or could this be some weird glitch? Hate to celebrate before I have confirmation but today is my birthday and man would this be the best birthday gift!

  39. You should be good to go! Download the "Mortgage Applicants" Letter all the way at the bottom of the site. It should reflect a balance of zero, or something that says "paid in full". Your letter may take a couple of days to show in the inbox. For example, my husband's loans were just forgive this past Thursday, 1/27/22, and the "official" letter appeared just today, 1/31/22 in his inbox! Best of luck and congratulations! Oh, and Happy Birthday :)

  40. My husband and I both sent in our ECF/PSLF Application after the Waiver was announced in October 2021. I was already with FedLoan (temporarily went to Mohela when FedLoan was closing down, then went back to FedLoan after application was sent in); husband was with Navient (both of us Direct Loans).

  41. You may also be able to add loans to your original Direct Consolidation if it is within 180 calendar days...rather than reapplying again for consolidation.
