I'd probably start with barrels I think the twins have 6 barrels and 5 side pins you can progressively pin to learn to pick them it will take some time to learn to pick 6. I would try gins later as you will have to float pick them but some people prefer gins to barrels. I Haven't picked many twins yet but I prefer barrels.
I decided to finally hit the Twin line up hard and started off with a Max. Picked just barrels fine, just side pins fine, put everything back and now I magically canโt pick barrels. I donโt know if the sidebar is affecting how they bind against the chambers/milling or what but itโs being difficult now. Which wouldnโt be a problem if they didnโt require 15 minutes of taper pin-like climbing every time just to take a shot at them. Theyโre really time consuming.
With the twins sometimes the sidebar pins don't isolate from the barrels so check for binding sidebar pins as you pick the barrels and try both cw and ccw tension to see what works best for you. Try pick it with 1 or 2 barrels and and some sidebar pins to get a better feel for the lock. I found the v18 hard to pick the side pins give good feedback but the top row gave very little and I overset alot.
I donโt know about straight to black. 1 brown belt or higher lock and Iโll grab brown. Then Iโll probably skip red and go to black. I figure that since I only have 2 black belt locks unlocked currentlyโฆ well that and Iโm a little crazy. I mean I did go white > yellow > green > purple so far. Used a brown belt (Primus) as my second purple belt locks as it was. Used a blue belt locks as my green belt lock.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. If I had more time to dedicate I probably would have one of them picked. I do know that I need to get a deeper hook son which will help because of the bitting on the 6K
If you count the number of clicks needed to set the first pin to open then put in the second pin you can set the first pin and jiggle test it so you know how they feel when set if that makes sense
I just feel like it's easier to learn something when there's 1 or 2 pins, not like 6 or 7. You get more instant feedback when you do something right. Rather than "yes you set the pin but you won't get the open til you set 5 more."
I have to progressively pin any type of lock with pins I haven't picked before it's the only way I can learn and I should be able to pick the same type without prog after that.
I watched the video I would say the other 600 has hard bitting and maybe manufacturing tolerances working against you. I couldn't get the 700 open until I oiled it.
Do you know what function the โearsโ on the key pins and corresponding slots in the cylinder play? Iโve been trying to think it through and donโt see a reason for it, especially given the extra cost of manufacturing that.
I think the ears stop the pins from rotating and the extra cuts on the key pins might be for master keying each key pin has 2 cuts I'm not sure if it's visible from the picture
Yeah I noticed how the key pins have different elevations at the key-end. I guess in that respect you could have two different keys that will open this depending on the key blank thats used (one with bitting that rides right vs left, or center) That would also explain why they wouldn't want the pins to rotate. Super cool concept there and something I've never see before!
I picked the T80 the pins look the same I think the only difference is the two extra pins on top which don't add much difficulty to picking. It is a tough lock to pick and I agree with it being purple ๐.
Very cool ๐ ๐
Your the first to pick it you can rank it BB level 5 ๐
Congrats Jim nicely done ๐
Fun if you like to torment yourself ๐
10 tiny half sidebar pins sounds like lots of fun ๐
I don't know anything about the dp4400
Iโve never done gins before. My Robur just had the one barrel in it.

Nicely done ๐
Congratulations
Thank you a bunch!
It takes alot of time and effort to get a black belt it's a big relief when you get it enjoy your day you've earned it ๐
Congrats Jim picking 20 bb locks takes alot of time, effort and skill ๐
Beautiful pick ๐ค
I am Looking forward to getting them ๐
Very nice I like the colour ๐
The resin DD handles are a great way to get into picking DD locks ๐
That 500 keyway is going to make it alot harder to pick ๐

I think you can use the 2 bb locks to get red and still use them for black I don't think it will be to long before your bb.

Black belt locks do take alot of time to pick let me know if you need any advice or tips on picking them and I will help if I can.
Nicely done my hand would cramp up if I tried to pick a euro cylinder in hand ๐
Nice picking multilocks can be hard to pick ๐

Compared to my other gin 600 that Iโve been fighting with for over a year not bad at all. I had this one picked in less that an hour
I watched the video I would say the other 600 has hard bitting and maybe manufacturing tolerances working against you. I couldn't get the 700 open until I oiled it.
The other one definitely had harder bitting and a different keyway as well which makes getting clean feedback more difficult.
It shows how hard they are to pick they punish you by dropping pins for the slightest mistake.

I keep an eye out for interesting looks and new challenges I don't post to often tho.
Congrats Jim ๐
Nice pick ๐
