  1. This might go beyond therapy. She needs to admit herself for a few weeks. I know people find admitting oneself as a sign of them being insane, but this sounds like a much bigger problem. It sounds like a neurological "malfunction" that professionals should address to help her rewire her brain. This sounds more like a psychotic break than simply talking to a counselor for an hour a week.

  2. Naming my MCs are pretty easy. I go for names I like and create the character around its ethnicity. It's the side characters I struggle with naming. I will go to baby naming lists and find a name I like. I try not to go too popular, but I don't want too weird.

  3. Typically, I read whenever I'm not near my computer (traveling, treadmill, bedtime, etc.) I also read to avoid getting burnt out while editing manuscripts. Sometimes I read too much, but is that really a thing? I think it all depends on your feelings.

  4. I've done both. My first book was numbers. My next one is with titles and numbers. A few WIP are just titles and others numbered. I don't care for descriptive chapter titles, so I just label them with the name of the character. Using titles to describe the chapter is a spoiler to me.

  5. The fact you used real cheese makes this even better. Good on ya.

  6. There a few times where i would write a sad scene (at least for me) and find myself crying. At least getting teary eyed. I like when I do that because I let my own feelings for that moment really show. If I don't have any emotional reaction to those scenes (or get happy during happy scenes) then I'm not too invested. Kind of like filler scenes for me.

  7. Travis Kelce should've tried his hand with D'Andre Swift than Taylor. Even as a running back, D-Swift hasn't been pummeled by as many men as T-Swift has.

  8. The only other beating we had to endure was seeing Taylor Swift at the Chief's game. It was a devastation all around the league today.

  9. I'm a girl. Too lazy to read all the amateur comments. Once was a child. Why did we do this? I'm not sure I understand this. Why did I hug my boyfriend around the neck again?

  10. My OC dies YEARS from now (before the story tells it) and I'm mourning him. Been mourning him for two years now.

  11. This is fake, right? Who talks like this? "I hacked this person's account." I would have much more believed it if the names were redacted/blacked out rather than "this person." As far as the They/Them pronouns, in today's society, I can understand why that was used.

  12. Just curious, you don't use dialogue tags at all? Interesting. Probably the first person to dislike a very common, if not necessary, line in all writing. I don't think I've ever read a book or wrote one that doesn't use a dialogue tag. It's there for a purpose and not meant to be annoying. Action tags are great to break the monotony, but dialogue tags are necessary to show conversation between the characters. "She said under her breath" hits wrong for you? How else are we supposed to know that she whispered something or was being snarky while speaking?

  13. My mom refused me makeup when I was that age. I wasn't allowed to wear even the littlest eyeliner until I was 16. I started sneaking it when I was 13. Sadly, I used to shoplift it.

  14. American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis. I'm one of the very few in the extreme horror Fandom that cannot stand this book. But I wrestled my way through. Only took me about three months to finish.

  15. Here's the thing, a lot of writers do not like their own work. But that's just our mentality after reading and rereading our own manuscripts. It sounds like you are comparing your writing to a world-renowned author. That is not inspiring at all. Sure, you can always enjoy books. I mean, one of the biggest piece of advice is to read a lot. But when you try to compete with a piece that has gone through hours of planning and dozens of edits, it will always make you feel inferior.

  16. After reading some contemporary romances, just naming the two main characters is pretty telling. Unless one of the MCs makes it clear that they aren't interested due to sexuality or seriously involved with another, it's standard that the two will end up together in the end. Most of those novels don't show chemistry or connection to hint they will get together. Just mention how they find each other attractive (nothing more, just pure looks) and BOOM! You got a coupling.

  17. As a 90s kid, make up back then was nothing like it is today. Full coverage was scarce, and color theory was not as precise as it is today. Full coverage foundation wasn't a thing back then. We loved glitter, white liner, and thin eyebrows. That's it. Full face make up wasn't "in". It looks natural because it basically was natural.

  18. Dude, your girl is abusive. As a woman, and I said my husband won't sleep with me because I'm "fat" (5'4" 112lbs) and he likes to hit me because he he says I "like it," how does that sound? Not very good. Majority if the world would tell me to leave him. Shit, I should call the cops!

  19. I don't understand the debate. I mean, I read a few comments mentioning the "debut" headline, which I get. But most celebrities (or their teams) hire ghostwriters to write their biographies. I honestly don't believe the biggest bio of the decade: "I'm Glad My Mom Died," was really written by Jennette McCurdy, or "Spare," by Prince Harry, was written by Harry himself. That's what ghostwriters do. Even no-name authors hire ghostwriters (Fiverr sellers offer this openly). If anyone has seen that show, "Castle" would know that his books are real, but they used ghostwriters to write them and slapped his name on it. It feels more like a hit on the job of ghostwriting that is the debate rather than the celebrities using them. (Aside from calling an obviously ghostwritten book a debut if you only handed over a theme.)

  20. For my first cover, I went to 99 Designs. It cost a pretty penny, but it is so gorgeous! My second, I went to Fiverr. After spending way more than I made on my first novel, I had to cut corners for my second. Though my second cover is nice, I did get what I paid for.

  21. I don't understand this. She's jocking women/girls that enjoy PS lattes for being, I'm assuming, basic, but she has what is considered the trademark of basic "bitches" drink: White Claw. Don't get me wrong, I love seltzers. I prefer Truly, but eh, they're about all the same. But if you're gonna rag on someone for liking PS, you might want to double-check your own choices.

  22. Just finished this one. It's not my cup of tea regarding genre, but it was written so beautifully I fell in love.
