It's local election season in the US! Make your voice heard in state and local elections.

  1. Congrats !!! That's amazing. Can you share how you stopped ? I'm currently struggling and keep breaking my promise to myself, but I've stayed sober so far today its almost midnight where I am. I'm curious as to what worked for you and also anyone else who would like to chime in with tips!

  2. The thing that worked for me and easier said than done of course, was to force myself to have the mindset that I do not drink anymore. I know it sounds dumb, but I can not even start having the conversation in my brain to drink, because alcoholic me is more convincing than sober me.

  3. This is true. I had to just decide that I was a non-drinker and had to be that way for the rest of my life.

  4. I don't have any real tips. I download the sober app - counting the days, watching them add up really helped. I stayed on this sub - a lot. I bought lots of La Croix and mixed it with juices, cranberry mostly, and always had it right there to drink instead of vodka. The more the days added up, the easier it got. I did a few online AA meetings, but it wasn't for me. It works for so many people so I'm not disparaging it at all, it just wasn't what worked for me. I like audio books, so I listened to a few about not drinking, and they helped.

  5. I think pretty much everywhere is hiring. Are you not seeing "we're hiring signs" everywhere, because I am.

  6. In the two years since I quit drinking, I've gotten a new job, doubled my salary and moved to a new city that I absolutely love. I guess my hidden talent was that I didn't suck at my job once I went to work without a hangover.

  7. I'm so sorry. My best friend did the same thing over ten years ago. You'll never get over it, but you will be able to move on eventually. Like you said, she wouldn't want you to drink. I went through all the grief stages - including being mad at her for not calling me before she did something so stupid. I had to forgive her, and forgive myself for the guilt I felt because I didn't understand the depth of her pain. Again, like you said, she wouldn't want you to drink. I don't want you to drink. I'm here if you want to reach out.

  8. God I hated her… she always said that or that she was “about to kick someone’s ass” she seems exhausting to be around. Her and robin and Tiffany were the devils trio that season lol

  9. I decided to stop and never thought I'd make it to a year. Several times along the way, I promised myself that if I made it a year, I'd allow myself a few drinks to celebrate. Then, I hit a year and all I could think about was something someone wrote in another post about how after two years, they could honestly say "I haven't had a drink in years." So now, I'm all about August 9, 2022.

  10. You're the only one that matters. Remember, you quit for you and how you feel about your not drinking is the only opinion that matters.

  11. Not to be rude or patronising but just do some research. You can’t consult everyone else on your own writing (aside from feedback) or you will waste a lot of time waiting for an outside solution.

  12. I think that's what he/she is trying to do with this post.

  13. Not sure how that will help if OP is in California, but his sister should definitely dial it.

  14. How was he the worst exactly? And damn, people really can't be having different opinions anymore huh

  15. My opinion is that you are a cult member. Seriously, get help.

  16. Think through the drink - that is what always works for me. Way to go.

  17. That's how I made it a week. The wife constantly asking me not to drink too much when she went to bed... even though I'd removed all the alcohol from the house days ago, wasn't drinking and wasn't planning on it... didn't have a beer on my desk like I normally would... just sorta blew me over the edge.

  18. You can't blame her. That's just not fair. You have to decide to stop for you and you only. If you stop for her, you're just going to end up resenting her, and that's going to make you feel like you deserve a drink. Just do better. It's entirely possible and I'm rooting for you.
