  1. I work in Neurosurgery, monitoring the nervous system (intraoperative neuromonitoring). The main risks are placing the screws and what we call derotation. When they place screws, they put it through a thin bridge of bone on each vertebrae called a pedicle. If the pedicle screw breaches the bone laterally, it can damage a nerve root, causing paralysis of the muscle(s) controlled by said nerve root. If it breaches the bone medially, it can damage the spinal cord which can cause paralysis. How do we safely put in the screws? Well two ways. First, they have navigation tools that basically calibrate the screwdriver with the mri digitally and then extrapolate the trajectory of the screw into the mri so they can see if itā€™s headed in the right direction as they screw it in. The second method is that we can electrify the screw as they do this. Thatā€™s my job. I put needles in all the relevant muscles controlled by these nerve roots. These needles are connected to wires that show me electrical activity in a screen. If I stimulate the screw and it makes a muscle twitch, Iā€™ll see a spike on my screen from those needles. Since bone has a high impedance, we can use that to determine how close we are to the nerve root with the screw. If I stimulate at a current of 5mA (milliamps, think like licking a D battery) and the relevant muscle twitches, itā€™s likely the screw is not perfectly in the pedicle. If it takes 8+mA to make the muscle twitch, then itā€™s in a good spot.

  2. Thanks for the explanation! Question: whatā€™s the main difference you see between pediatric patients and adult scoliosis patients? Can adult spines ā€˜derotateā€™ easily or nah?

  3. My baby is 10 weeks and has been a pretty good sleeper. Once he exceeded his birth weight and we no longer had to wait him every 2-3 hours to feed, he was sleeping 3-4 hours, or 5.5 hours on really good days. When he was 7 weeks old and heavy enough for the magic Merlin sleep suit, everything changed. The first night in it, he slept 6.5 hours. The next night, just over 7 hours. Now he sleeps an average of 6-7 hours (once he slept for 9.5 hours!!!!) for the first stretch of the night, and 2-4 hours for the last stretch. The suit is amaaaaazing and I highly recommend it.

  4. When you rolled it twice did you pull the panel to take out any slack?

  5. Baby will let you know if sheā€™s in pain! Iā€™d try a couple things to see if babyā€™s back can curve away from you a bit more. When you tighten the straps, manually pull on them and feed tension back over your shoulders under your arms towards the clips so thereā€™s a bit more room for her back to curve away. Experiment with the waistband either higher or folded again. And try

  6. It was rough in the beginning. Way harder than I ever imagined. Iā€™ve also never really been around a baby before. My son had baaaaad trapped gas pain from week 2-6 and I about lost my mind. There was nothing I could do for him besides everything I was doing. His pediatrician told me it would take time. But, I am an inpatient person.

  7. Thatā€™s awesome to see how much Wes has turned his life around, truly inspiring

  8. I remember when Narmin outed Jeremy Buendia for DV and he hasnā€™t competed since. I hope the IFBB takes this very seriously and bans him from competing.

  9. Ironic that Brandon was always against Jeremy buendia, for multiple reasons, but he turned out exactly like him

  10. wow!! but no ashley k?! i love watching her compete! šŸ˜¢

  11. Now I wanna knowā€¦what are these things? And who paid for them?

  12. Yes, inquiring minds want to know! Please post more from his stories lol

  13. How much money do you think Georgette is raking in? There's over 150 in my module 1+2 class, let's say they all bought the package for $395. Thats almost 60k for the week. Sheeeeeesh

  14. I came across this reddit looking for advice, and this sounds like my girl! She's 2 yrs and 9 months, I take her to a regular open park, with her dog friends, she's fine, even the little shih tzu that is in our group. But randomly she starts being aggressive and barking at other little dogs. Just wanted to see if there was an update and what you found was helpful, i.e. make her more neutral?

  15. I honestly think less of Isa now that she's with team atlas. There is so much controversy surrounding him, it doesn't matter if her first language isn't English, I bet the gossip is the same in English and Portuguese, people talk regardless. It's not hard to find out his reputation on the industry, and the fact that she's willing to go with him to try and place better? Yikes.

  16. What a loser. NEXT. Glad Ashlyn dump his toxic ass. Gross ass personality.

  17. I feel like they're both losers. I mean the common denominator in all her failed relationships is her......

  18. And now he's bashing her on his stories by posting messages saying Ashlyn is a 3 out of 10 at best, she's unpredictable, etc.

  19. Wiktoria Gasior from Poland is 24 years old and did her 1st OLYMPIA this year. She has her arm sleeved. Thereā€™s also bikini pro from Brazil that has rods and gauges in their ears and septum piercing. A lot of people style and personalities coming out now these days but as long as itā€™s not distracting, itā€™s OK

  20. This looks WAY better than Carla garthwaites sleeve. Its not distracting to the eye of and flows nicely. Also maybe the way she's posing as well helps.

  21. Thanks everyone, Ashley and I went in to this show just crossing our fingers for a first callout. That was the only goal and anything past that was icing on the cake. We were hoping for an 8 person callout and if she finished even 8th we were stoked. This was without a doubt the absolute hardest Bikini Olympia of all time so in Bikini especially weā€™re realistic. This is extremely subjective so her third place physique can have an argument for first place and for tenth place and both arguments can be valid.

  22. šŸ’Æ! She's the bikini GOAT, the most winningest IBFF Pro ever. I love that she doesn't need to call herself that, everyone else does it for her and recognizes it.

  23. I love Ashley K, but her over overall presentation needs a makeover in my opinion. In the back pose you can see that her hair extensions arenā€™t full/fluffy and look too coiled. I know it sounds overly critical but these little details are everything. Her posing especially needs a little extra help to give it that wow factor. Such a beautiful physique and such a great representation of the sport, but the presentation isnā€™t meeting itā€™s full potential.

  24. She's my fav too, but I agree, those tiny things are keeping her out of the first place spot

  25. All you have to do is contact the company your buying from and say you never received the package, they will ask if you would like them to resend it to which you reply no you just want your money back. Itā€™s the holidays and package theft is at its highest this time of year.

  26. Fan base? Are you referring to Tom Brady or Jordan? Realistically their fan base are their families, friends, and a few of us who follow this sport, and most people here would feel silly wearing these. As for me, I actually thought the Jenn Dorie shirt was cute until I saw the price. No way.

  27. Jen Dorie's was prob the nicest out of all of them. Lauralie's "CHAP" looked hella basic. I was surprised Janets merch looked so lame, considering she's one of the most elegant, classy competitors. If you're going to sell merch, please get a good design šŸ˜…

  28. I didnā€™t see this, but I just watched Ashleyā€™s stories where she mentions she has tank tops. But sheā€™s giving them away for free.

  29. That's a class act. She's not in it for the money. They didn't look that great lol but as opposed to Jen Dorie selling hers for $40?! Come on now.

  30. This is just someone who is being completely honest. Look at what happened when ahw went up against Isa...If those kind of talent were in the shows she was doing she would not have alot of titles say for example laualie going up against her in these kind of shows...she would get beat. I'm Not a sore loser but the shows are weak. The arnold Uk come on everyone knew she was a clear front runner...put jen dorie in the line up and see what happens. Weak shows just to say she got 39 something title....means nothing...go up against some competition. Just keeping it real.

  31. How come the narrative is always "she completes too much" against ppl that aren't competitive?it should be why aren't the bigger names competing more? lauralie, jen dorie, isa, Janet... I'm sure all these top tier names would prob have all competing expenses paid too.

  32. My advice if you do decide to try Pilates is to invest in a few one on one sessions with an instructor before jumping right into classes.

  33. Great post, I have scoliosis as well and I feel like I've deteriorated drastically in the last 5 years. Did you ever get scolisois surgery? I don't want to go that route but I'm ALWAYS in pain. I should prob try pilates first though šŸ˜†

  34. She looks alright but she doesnā€™t have the physique of a top pro. Not sure how sheā€™d place on this show. Anyway, I see her comment on peopleā€™s posing but her posing resembles Ashleyā€™s where the floor is lava and slightly awkward.

  35. šŸ˜‚šŸ’Æ she looks meh. She can dish out criticism but not apply to herself. Weird šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

  36. thanks, but yea not too many come to mind right!? I mean I know we still gotta put in the work, but Id really love to follow on social media someone who leads a more realistic schedule and still manages to compete. Some days after b.s at work, Im just emotionally exhausted...

  37. I think it's nuts she gets so much hate on these boards. She's an OG, done so much for the sport since the early days, great sportsmanship, never talks shit about other competitors, even when ppl like Carla garthewaite, jourdanne, Ashlyn little say snarky shit. She competes a lot because she treats it like a job, a profession, and IMO she's very professional. She leaves her personal life out of social media, unlike LL (who I LOVE btw, but all the unnecessary drama surrounding her is like...meh). Ashley does listen to feedback, posing has gotten better even if it's at a snails pace, she knows she has things to improve on and doesn't act at all entitled to wins. She might be a little (or a lot) unrelatable in the sense that she's quitr quirky, doesn't fit the mold, but literally stays in her lane. I think ppl should give her way more respect than she gets.
