  1. Isn't this an oversimplification, though? I could just as easily say that this is an episode about Jess working overtime and Dave spinning an elaborate web of lies to trick Mrs. Kim.

  2. The comfort and skill with which Dave lies and manipulates people is downright scary. These are characteristics of a master abuser, the kind who isolates his victim by convincing everyone in her life that he's a really great guy, so they leap to his defense and make her think she's overreacting when he finally strikes.

  3. Y'all Will call every man on this show an abuser but not admit Jess tried to sexually assault Rory. Smh.

  4. I definitely didn't say anything about Jess, nor did I call Dave an abuser. I pointed out Dave's prolific lying and manipulation, which was unequivocally shown on the show. Everyone ignores how easily those lying and manipulation skills could be used for evil because the show portrayed it as being in service of his relationship with Lane and therefore romantic. In my experience, expert lying is not a good trait in a partner.

  5. So was the haircut cool to you at the time or were you still regretting it when you were in that picture?

  6. The bleached, over-gelled, forward-combed otter-hair look was definitely "in" in 2002. OP just needed to grow out the front a little longer for the full duck bill/cap brim effect to truly nail the style.

  7. were the people who told you it was unprofessional *white* by any chance

  8. Seriously. Sounds like fragile white people whose privilege allows them to think the mere construct of race (and racism) is an indecent topic not to be acknowledged in polite company.

  9. Consider whether it might impede your ability to meet billable hours requirements and be available at the whim of your employer.

  10. The thing that bothers me about this scene is how much they play up “stars hollow is a small town” and wouldn’t Jess immediately know it was them? Like who else would devil egg (culs de sac?) someone’s car?

  11. I dunno, I could see Babette whipping up some deviled egg projectiles to get revenge for the garden gnome incident.

  12. Hmmmm…good point, I may or may not have followed him into the bathroom…I heard peeing, but of course I kept my distance so I didn’t “see” the act.

  13. Assuming this bathroom had a mirror by the sink, did you have an opportunity to watch for the mysterious being's reflection or lack thereof?

  14. I don't know if this is true at the Gilmores' wealth level, but it is common for two spouses to write their wills to leave everything to the surviving spouse if there is one. So there would be a plan for property to pass to children and grandchildren or whomever else, but not until the second spouse dies.

  15. They have some massive towers for that much, yeah, but there are also less expensive options. They make exceedingly high quality, sturdy, durable products that will likely outlast many of the mass-produced versions available at big pet supply chains. Purrniture offers cat furniture repair services and trade-ins at a discount. They try to incorporate reuse and recycling into their processes, which is important to me as an environmentalist.

  16. To this day I don’t understand how people treated her and supported him but I really really am appalled that any woman would want to be in a political party that treated another woman the way the GoP treated her. That we have a rapist sitting on SCOTUS has forever sullied every ruling they make.

  17. Agreed. Similar could be said about how Biden (and basically all the Republicans and Democrats in the Senate at the time) treated Anita Hill when he ran Justice Thomas's SCOTUS confirmation hearing. 2018 was an uncanny redux of 1991.

  18. They talk about this in Gilmore To Say podcast. Every proposal in the show is as a result of or to end a conflict. Even Jackson's proposal is after a fight. Dean and Lindsay decides to get married right after that huge fight between Dean and Jess at Kyle's party. We can only assume that Lindsay heard that he fought with Rory's current boyfriend and this made her rightfully insecure, and they probably got into a fight. This also makes me really curious about how ASP views marriage and proposals. I wish she was asked about this in any interview.

  19. Exactly. I'll add to the list that Max proposed right after fighting with Lorelai about her friendship with Luke. "Are you two done swinging those things around?"

  20. I‘d add prison guards to this list. The stories I have heard and read. Wowzahs!

  21. I had a truly depressing conversation with a friend-of-a-friend who is a correctional officer a few years ago. I started a casual "what do you do for work" conversation at a wedding reception, and he unraveled into a tirade about the incarcerated people at his work getting too many privileges they don't deserve. The disdain in his voice, and his choice of words, were horrifying. He felt disrespected by them, and yeah some of them probably weren't very kind to him under the circumstances. But he spoke of them as if they were subhuman, hopeless to reenter free society, not worth any sort of investment of education or vocational training or health care or sympathy.

  22. I am only on season 1 episode 9, but I'm finding it glaringly obvious this show was created by men, for men.

  23. Fargo, easily. I enjoyed the first three seasons of TD (don’t have any interest in watching Night Country, as to me it looks like they’re just trying to tie it to the first season again when I was one of the few who actually liked how different and unconnected its second season was), but Fargo is my favorite show ever. To me it’s on a totally different level compared to any other series, so of course I’m going to pick it over TD.

  24. For what it's worth, I really liked Night Country and it had little to no meaningful connection to season 1.

  25. I didn't get around to watching True Detective season 1 until last year, and I have to say, I was pretty disappointed in the show after hearing all the rave reviews it gets. The most glaring discomfort point for me was that the people behind that season could not manage to write an interesting or realistic woman character. They all felt like either props for the male gaze or props for the leading men to save. I couldn't see any genuine understanding or depth in the writing of those characters, and in 2023, that was a distracting shortcoming.

  26. At night she stays in a large cat proof room and during the day gradually let explore other areas (the building has 3 floors). No chemicals or toxic stuff and I did not notice any interest in cables. We are working on some cat safety rules that are clear for everyone.

  27. Keep in mind that cats are crepuscular, so she'll be having the strongest urges to hunt and play around dusk and dawn. I don't know how that fits with your office hours year round, but it could be really distressing if she is alone with no playmates for her most active hours. All cats, but even moreso kittens and young cats, need a lot of active play during twilight hours.

  28. I sometimes have dreams in which I'm trying to write an advice memo to a client, but the words I wrote keep changing and disappearing because that's how dream memory works, so it becomes this fruitless treadmill of writing and rewriting the same memo for what fees like hours. I wake up from these dreams feeing completely unrested and totally not ready to spend the day working on that same memo in real life.

  29. I somehow got Pit both nights?!?! I may have accidentally made a deal with the devil for these; not sure how the probability works out otherwise.

  30. Is pit p1 and p2 in the emails? Congrats by the way!

  31. No, my emails say "GA Pit - Standing". I believe P1 and P2 are placeholders meaning you got tickets in the assigned seating sections, and they'll send you specific seat numbers in the near future.

  32. Check out the Herbivorous Butcher in Minneapolis. They ship. We love them.

  33. I love living downtown. It is so convenient. I'm within walking distance of at least four grocery stores, a reasonably priced movie theater owned by a nonprofit, multiple music venues and live theaters, restaurants, excellent coffee shops, a few parks, and a really nice riverside pedestrian trail. None of my suburban friends have all of those a walk away. That's not even considering the bus lines.

  34. My understanding is they mostly prioritized getting standalone, single-family houses and unshared yards for their dogs and/or kids, and they were willing to do a lot more driving for it. Different lifestyle preferences 🤷🏼‍♀️

  35. Viewing this in contrast to "I'm sixteen years old, I don't wanna die," I can only consider this an awesome accomplishment. Good work, Buffy.

  36. Light Years. I went through a period in young adulthood when three people close to me died in quick succession, and I had just ended a serious romantic relationship, and was gearing up to move away from my hometown and all my friends and family for the first time and feeling all the sentimentality. At that time, my brain had a lot of trouble handling much, but I kept coming back to this song. The lyrics and the music are so simple, but it was the comfort I needed. I will always remember the way I felt I could hold onto this song when I otherwise wasn't sure I could manage.

  37. When Indira caught her useless spouse cheating and gave the whole good riddance breakup speech.

  38. If you’re in the US, look into Purrniture. They are hand built in Minnesota and cost a bit more than Amazon but are practically indestructible. I’ve had mine 3 years and it still looks as good as the day I bought it. I have a 16 pound and two 13 pound boys who use it constantly.

  39. Purrniture is the best. We have the "orbiter" and the "purrfect perch" models from there. Our two cats love both for lounging, napping, zoomies-adjacent climbing, hiding, and of course the ol' stretch-'n-scratch. The furniture is very sturdy. And the carpeting holds up to a lot of scratching.

  40. How do you live in the US for over a decade and not bother to learn English at all? Not even to be able to talk with your own son?

  41. I think they mentioned he was working 14-hour days in a restaurant. I imagine it would be difficult to reserve much energy for anything else on top of that kind of work schedule.
