  1. Smod is second gen only. Check for codes, I've owned 2 SC and if the knock sensor fails, the timing is retarded and it feels as bad as a NA engine. Knock sensor alone won't trigger the SES light, so you have to check. Unfortunately the knock sensor is in a bad location and requires a significant labor charge to change. Options include placing a sensor in a different location so it's easier to change when it fails or using a resistor to trick the system into thinking the sensor is working. I did the later 2 years ago and have had no issues, also running a 2.3 pulley for more boost.

  2. Did you notice a difference with the pully swap? I just did the DT headers and I'm considering the pulley swap next.

  3. I'm running an 03' S/C... not quite a 2nd gen but I put DTs on last weekend with the stock exhaust. It honestly sounds incredible. Not super loud, just throaty. A bit more power too.

  4. I have a 3” body lift and will not be doing exhaust work on mine again. It was a solid 6-8 hrs of work. I don’t wanna imagine the problems with replacing stock manifolds with “stock” manifold.

  5. I just did DT long tube header install. It took about 6-8 hours to get one bolt off. I didn't want to cut anything. The entire install was about 14 hours. insanity.

  6. Like another commenter said, it’s probably the distributor based on your symptoms especially if it’s only throwing P0238. I had the same issue after a while in my 02. Check the rotor first as it’s very easy and cheap to fix, and if that’s not the problem replace the whole unit. It’s a really easy job, do it yourself and save some cash.

  7. I had a similar turn of events as OP and did the distributor and spark plugs/wires and it hasn't happened since (3 yrs later). I second this opinion.

  8. Eastern Washington resident here. Ive been running Faulken Wildpeak AT3 and have had ZERO issues. In fact, these things are great in all weathers. I do quite a bit of off roading and have not had any issues at all.

  9. Eh... it is a problem. You're operating under the assumption we're engaged in a free market. We are not.

  10. I suggest checking out words & numbers podcast. Economist Antony Davies talks about where the pandemic money went and its effects on the economy. He also talks about inequality on his YouTube channel and basically addresses the topic you just spoke on in a recent talk he gave. That is, if you or anyone would like to go deeper.

  11. I wish I knew. I personally would change wires/spark plugs

  12. manifold cracked on my '03 with 198K. I'm waiting for the long tubes to ship to me.

  13. SOunds like you made some wonderful memories and had a great chance to test the limits. Did you feel your confidence grow as you overcame obstacles?

  14. Do the supercharged radiator swap. I just bought a Denso radiator for my 2003 S/C for like $130. Its like twice the thickness of the non-S/C model and should help. I read a lot of people who said it is a direct replacement. I don't know that for sure so make sure to research.

  15. Never done a body lift. Just the suspension lift

  16. Love it! What did you do on the hood? Looks pretty sweet.

  17. That was my first xterra. I did the hood. I used a matte black paint and I used painters tape. Took a while to tape it off, basically I ripped little tiny pieces and placed them to round the corners. Then I did painters plastic so I didn't need to worry about overspray

  18. Welcome in. Shine bright like a... Glacier?

  19. I'm a 20+year old vehicle kinda gal. Lol! Currently never owned anything newer than 03, and before my 03 escape I had the same year explorer.. Then 97 and older. I prefer older because of the ease of repairs!

  20. Excellent! So when you look at that Xterra, you just need to decide what you are comfortable with. From the picture I see, it looks to be in decent condition. Check for rust underneath. The back hatch can sometimes have rust if the paint gets chipped. I'm getting ready to buy long tube headers for mine because the manifold on the passanger side is cracked. the 04 I had needed a distributor and spark plugs. It started running rough and I tracked that down. I bought expensive parts so it was spendy but it can be done relatively cheap.

  21. Right on!the bf will be helping me with most repairs so I'll let him know. We have an rtt and way too many trails to count here in bc. Did the math and I'm sitting about 15.5mpg in my escape right now... Lol! So It shouldn't be too big a difference. Thanks again! Gonna go check it out today.

  22. Julian Peterson when we werent playing him.

  23. These engines have the most analog EFI system there is. It's all 80's tech, hence the distributor. If you want to be able to tune it digitally, you'll have to switch to a MegaSquirt stand-alone EMS.

  24. This is literally the most conscise answer I have found on this subject. You rock dude!

  25. The guy to talk to about Megasquirt on a VG33 is Alex Milward. Dunno if he's here on Reddit, but he's on Facebook.
