Personally, I've held the headcanon that once Kenshiro settles into a spot and position of mentorship, he'll begin training an entirely new generation of martial artists with the multitudes of styles he's pick up on his journey. While I'm sure the successor to Hokuto Shinken is the most important to him, I can't see the guy letting thousands of years of tradition fade away when he could do something about it, and it's kind of neat to see Ken as an even more mythological figure future generations would look back upon.

Yeah, he's been watered down over the years to be some generalized embodiment of guilt, but real Pyramid Head is specifically tied to James and his guilt. Pyramid Head's existence ended when James had no further need for punishment.
It’s just the one tiny thing that annoys me about PH’s lore in DbD. They say he’s his own entity when he really wasn’t. I get that the Silent Hill chapter is trying to represent the whole series but it would’ve made better sense to have James in place of Cheryl and have her as a legendary cosmetic instead, but I’m just being nit picky now.
If I remember correctly, i read that the creator of Pyramid Head preferred The White Hunter to be used for any other appearances of Pyramid Head outside the main game
