  1. Assuming the wood is still fine, power wash off the previous paint/covering, sand anything that doesn't come off with the wash. Do a complete wash of the deck with a cleaning solution for decks. And then reapply a stain/seal.

  2. Thanks. Any recommendations on what stain brand to use?

  3. Thanks again. How long usually stain holds? Seems like I will have to do it every year.

  4. Are you sure this isn't solid stain, not paint? It looks like it might be flaking off because the wood underneath looks to be rotten. Looking at the condition of the boards, you might be better off planning on replacing the wood. It looks to be in rough shape, there are no gaps between boards etc.

  5. Yeah its the paint not the stain. I have wooden floor inside and they are properly stained. But this is all painted.

  6. OK I don't want to labor the point but have you seen solid stain before? It looks like paint. It completely covers the wood. The stain in your home is transparent stain and you can see the grain through it. It's important to be sure because you can't pressure-wash solid stain off because it sinks into the wood. Paint sits on top of the wood. I guess worst-case scenario is you start to pressure wash it, it won't come off and you go back and solid-stain it anyway.

  7. Ahh I see what you’ve saying. Sorry new to all this. Seems like I might have to replace few boards. looking at the nails, they seems very deep in the wood. Is there a way I can take them out. A normal drill would work or I need something specialized.

  8. Work as a senior Data scientist for a tech firm. Make about 185k in a LCOL city.

  9. Yeah, strip out all the paint. I am not sure if I need to put something after cleaning that can help fill up the cracks. So far what I researched, wood fillers are not a good option. I am wondering if there is something else that I can use which can prolong the life.

  10. Also, forgot to ask What product would you suggest for staining? Thanks again.
