  1. The purpose of the Lewis and Clark expedition was not to explore the Louisiana Territory as the Louisiana Purchase happened only a few months before the expedition began. The purpose of the expedition was to find a water route to the Pacific. It was a dream of Thomas Jefferson's since the discovery of the Columbia River. The Zebulon Pike Expedition was to explore the Louisiana Territory. I'm a US History teacher whose read Undaunted Courage by Stephen E. Ambrose.

  2. To ELU5: No matter where you stand, the sun looks like it's setting because the earth is turning you away from it, and it's not turning you due East.

  3. So is it fair to assume that the sun will never even appear to set at exactly 270 degrees no matter where you are? For example standing at the equator on the equinox?

  4. I was an every day beer drinker for decades but I just stopped for no reason and I have absolutely no urge whatsoever to drink. I think I forgot what it feels like to have a buzz. I'm writing to let people know that this happens. It's a bit sad really. Maybe I'll force myself off the wagon. I have a triple tap tower in my house full of nitro coffee and hop water and I'm a bit ashamed of what I've turned into. Mornings are great and I'm fine at social events and yeah I save a lot of money but if you drink and enjoy a few beers it's not a bad thing imo.

  5. With only 20mi electric range, it is a waste of money to go to a 240v outlet. Just keep using the 110

  6. I think I'm ultimately spending dollars to save dimes but I like having a way of charging at off peak hours and out 110 cord is worn out. We're also going to have all electric cars and I'll want to minimize charging time. And I couldn't think of anything else to get my wife for her birthday. I appreciate the advice just the same.

  7. That is not what that link says. According to that link the max that vehicle will charge at is 3.3kW. Level 1 charging is ~1kW. Setting your charger to 24A as others have suggested provides ~5.6kW, meaning it will charge as quickly as the vehicle can take it, but setting it as low as 15A would not make a difference for this particular case.

  8. Good point. I'll keep the charger because eventually we'll have an ev that can handle a quicker charge, the charger can be programmed to operate at off peak hours, and our 120 charger is falling apart but could be useful to carry in the car since we travel a lot to air b&bs and electricity is free and chargers aren't always available.

  9. Open a collision claim with your own insurance. Let them deal with all this headache. Your car gets fixed and you move on with your life. Why is this even a question.

  10. It’s a question because if this individual decides to never answer his phone, there is an excellent chance that I will have to go $500 out of pocket because I will have to pay my deductible. However, if I do it through his insurance company, I don’t risk any out-of-pocket money. If I didn’t have the $500 deductible then it would be a much easier choice

  11. How old is your dishwasher? We had a KDPE334GPS that was a top control on the top edge of the door. It went on the fritz and would make random beeps and started flashing strangely for no reason. We ended up having to pay the technician to come out twice and the part replaced didn't fix the issue. I was annoyed as it was around $300 and didn't want to throw more money than that at the problem since it already cost half of the price new. We were just outside of the warranty that covered labor and parts. The part was covered but we had to pay the technician fee. Before we replace it I decided to tweet kitchen aid and tell them that it was bs that a part is covered under warranty but the labor wasn't and that at just a little over 2 years it was doing this and that I grew up with my grandmother have kitchen aid appliances and that they built a name recognition that I felt comfortable buying smything they made. I heard back from a different customer service team that dealt with social media stuff. They were super helpful and covered the next two technician visits and I was even reimbursed for the initial 2 technician fees. In the end they couldn't fix my issue and gave me a budget to replace our dishwasher. I didn't have to go with a kitchen aid brand but I did. The budget was well over what we initially paid.

  12. Thanks for getting back to me. That's helpful information and I'll definitely go that route if it comes to it. The technician came out today ($139) and identified the problem as the Control Board and quoted 266 for the part and 220 for installation so if you add all this up it's $625 (its a four-year old machine that was $930 new).

  13. UPDATE: I got that shank now everything’s perfect. Thanks!

  14. You may need to replace the shanks in the tower. I've had this happen to me before with cheap Chinese made shanks. If the nut that fastens the faucet to the shank doesn't thread all the way on, the faucet isn't engaging properly with the shank.

  15. Yeah I think this is the best option, but for a short term fix I might put in an o ring and keep the pressure off when not in use which will cause the coffee in the line to go flat but it’s not that big of a deal. It seems like 40-50 Bucks is the price on eBay and the whole tower was 86 smh

  16. I do it. I have a single line going into my kegerator and then into a manifold and i use one of the manifold lines to go into another regulator which in turn feeds another manifold.

  17. I guess my problem is finding the adapters. Manifold clamp directly to the hose via a barb/hose clamp connection, but you can’t manipulate the pressure other than switching it on and off. To connect to a regulator, I need to somehow mimic the male end of a tank so I can connect to the regulator. Someone mentioned earlier high pressure co2 hose that I would have to cut and reconnect inside get kegerator.

  18. I have nitro cold brew on my keezer (1 tap for me, 1 decaf for my wife, 3 beer). As others have mentioned, don’t use co2…only pure nitro.

  19. Right. No CO2 seems to be the consensus so I’ll stay all nitro for coffee. I just got into it and is amazing, cheap, and easy once you get the diffusion stone cap. I gave up beer during the pandemic and I’ve completely lost the craving for it, but I recently converted my two tap tower into a 3 tap tower by stacking two 2.5 gallon kegs and keeping a 5 gallon keg for beer and use the other two for hop water and nitro coffee. 2.5 seems like a small amount but the cold brew and hop water are so easy/cheap that it’s much easier that ash grain brewing and with less risk/clean up. The only issue was a nitrogen leak and a bad shank/nitro faucet connection, but I plan on maintaining the coffee/hop water/beer trifecta for a while. The only problem is the fact that it’s so good I drink too much cold brew and can’t sleep so a fourth tap for decaf may be in the offing,

  20. You need to get parts from your local Miele dealer. There's three in the San Diego area if memory serves me right.

  21. Thanks. Both Miele customer service and the dealer said there was no warranty on that type of damage.

  22. The average price of a motor for one is $200-300 here in the United States. They control the parts you need to get it from a dealer or find a used machine like an on eBay.

  23. Thanks I got a replacement motor for 190 at a local shop and it works like new now. No idea how it got wet, but I’m the motor was a huge mess afterwards

  24. Fast Car by Tracy Chapman. Perfect story, lyrics, tone, everything. Heartbreaking every time I hear it and it’s precisely as long as it needs to be.

  25. It took a while for me to notice that this song doesn’t contain any rhyming words. Which is unusual.

  26. I should also add that I live in California. These bumps go away a day or two after I go surfing. But they come right back The next time I go surfing. The doctor said it was a hernia. I don’t know about that. But it was a dermatologist who said this. I have no idea whatsoever what is going on. I do all kinds of core exercises and never notice anything bulging at all so I am suspicious as to whether or not it is actually a hernia.

  27. Same here. I never see any pros with them. They are very strange. The surgery was very easy. My left side took longer than expected so that's why I have to go back to get the other one done. I am allowed to surf after 5 days even with the stitches. My dr. applied local anesthesia to the area, made an inch long vertical slit and than cut out the fibourous fatty mass. I did feel a few snips here and there but I lived. My insurance covered the procedure too. Your dermatologist might be able to do it or they can refer you to a plastic surgeon if needed. It is not considered cosmetic.

  28. Hi. Would yours go away after a few days or were they permanent? Sounds like you had a 'fatty mass' to cut out. Mine go away, but are huge and soft and filled with what seems like liquid and my dermatologist says they're not lipoma but maybe hernia which seems crazy.

  29. Male, female, and neutral articles in different languages (German, Spanish, French, etc.) changing everything to neutral would have zero effect on meaning.

  30. Some thing strange here. Since the effective date start from the receiving date. The rental agency should have rejected the ticket and should have reported to the police your personal information. So you would have been informed directly from the Italian authorities. After that Italian police will send you the ticket with “raccomandata” that is a legal postmail where you have to sign. There are very very specific condition under a ticket is valide, otherwise (ticket in late [ they must deliver u the ticket within 90 days from the acknowledgment of the infraction], they MUST take the correct information.. etc etc) the ticket is not valid and you don’t have to pay. I think that you have to find some legal advice for see through this questions, maybe some law firm from Milano or Roma that offer online advising? But DON’T pay if you don’t have the certitude of the ticket correctness. Pay the ticket is a moral duty but only the right amount.

  31. Thanks for that information. I agree that we should pay the ticket, but the fines they have tacked on for being late are a bit ridiculous. I’ll look into the legality of the 90 day window. I believe that they claim to have served us paperwork on November 27 when the ticket was received in early July. So that 90 day window seems to have exceeded? And obviously we didn’t sign anything or receive any notice that we even had a ticket until a few days ago.
