  1. The pa is not going to agree to limit players playing for the cup.

  2. They maybe should, players are shortening their careers to do so now.

  3. Players want to win the cup thats why the play hurt in the playoffs and active players want to win( the nhlpa)

  4. Yep, agreed, but the players who are active shouldn't care one way or the other and the PA as a whole are kind of there to protect the players from themselves to some degree.

  5. Fuck me, I mean you can get injured at any point but this is why guys were rested last year in game 82.

  6. That would never work based on how the cap is compiled.

  7. Yeah, and there's an easier fix, all players on LTIR for the last 10 days of the season are ineligible to play in the playoffs.

  8. The thing that I don't understand is this is all monitored by neutral NHL doctors. The doctors say he can play, but I absolutely believe he's playing through injury. My issue is where were the doctors a week ago? It doesn't seem like the CBA needs to change. There's already a way to make sure teams aren't manipulating the system. But, without knowing what's going on behind the scenes, the league/doctors are either complicit in the circumvention or they're not doing their job of protecting player safety.

  9. So the problem is that a patient always has a ton of input here. If I'm not ready to play because of the cap I can emphasize the pain I'm feeling or weakness or nausea or (insert thing here). If I am ready to play because its now the post season I can downplay those things.

  10. How would you rate this season’s Maple Leafs team compared with teams from the last 5 years?

  11. Last year's team had better offensive depth with RoR and Co and was better defensively with effectively the same goaltending. The coaching of Last year's team was very poor and cohesion suffered as a result as did defensive performance. Overall, better, possibly the best we've seen in the Matthews era.

  12. Tell him to waive his nmc or he’s going to ride the press box. It’s cut throat, look at how Vegas runs things, and they are perennial contenders.

  13. Sure, but we're not Vegas, we don't have the same pull and can't draw the same types of players. Which means that you pull a stunt like that you're going to have a hell of a time bringing in FAs.

  14. You know what draws, doing whatever it takes to win. Not rolling out the same shit year after year hoping for a different result.

  15. Draws fans, sure, but leafs don't have a problem with that. Draws free agents? No.

  16. 2 of them got re-signed for more money (in one case so much more money) by treliving and one more was not moved when he could have been by Tre. You sure this is Dubas?

  17. Kyle really put together a sick squad this year eh?

  18. He did fine in Pittsburgh given the constraints. Came back with very nearly the same result as last year. We, on the other hand, finished worse in the regular. And are about to finish worse in the post season.

  19. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ok kyle

  20. I love how convinced you are that you're right despite having no argument to present.

  21. Go take a look at Marner's free agency class. It's fucking stacked.

  22. It would be an easier pill to swallow if Matthews was the outlier of production in the playoffs but we have Marner and Tavares who are grossly overpaid that also disappear come post season. Core needs to be shaken up this offseason to spread the value to our backend. It’s time.

  23. If that was the plan we needed to move Nylander for stuff instead of signing him. When we didn't we locked ourselves into this core next season and will only see changes in the following one when Tavares' contract ends.

  24. Have a bunch of defensemen who can't make outlet passes is a big problem with this team. Edmundson, Benoit, Lyubushkin all might as well play stick less. I think it's honesty a big reason why the team can't score in the postseason is our defense can't get anything going up ice and our transition game is completely nonexistent because of it

  25. Yeah, so maybe we should have brought in a defencemen at the deadline who could do that instead of blowing 6 picks on 3 bodies that can't.

  26. The issue is we do need both and the puck movers are more expensive more

  27. Did we? Edmundson, Dewar and boosh haven't moved the needle much (if at all ) in the right direction.

  28. Half of you are Brian dead, the other half are broken goods.

  29. If everything went right we'd only be down a goal? That's... a hell of a stance.

  30. Some fans say that this isn't the leafs' window to win the cup so I don't know why people are talking like losing to Boston is the end of the world. Most fans probably think the leafs are a legitimate contender after Tavares signs a cheap deal and they can afford some good defense. No pressure.

  31. So the problem is this year should have been our best shot in a long time. We had a lot of cap flexibility, we got rid of some of our poor performers, it was the right time to ditch the coach and we had a crop of young talent coming in. Then we fired Dubas, kept Keefe, brought in a brand new GM who did as well as you could expect without having much time with the team but still put together a significantly worse roster and... we're seeing the result of that now.

  32. Listen to Dangle, he thinks the Leafs have the advantage over the Bruins everywhere except 1st line D and goaltending

  33. Man, I like the guy but I think he and about half the sub have completely missed what the actual problem was with the leafs and that were a worse team this year than we were last.

  34. If you're serious, no, that's not what causes contrails.

  35. That the number one cause for bankruptcy is job loss. Just like us.

  36. Not the question I was asking, if you look at %of population suffering from medical bankruptcy every year in countries with universal, healthcare what do you see?

  37. The question is what qualifies as medical bankruptcy? In a lot of cases, perhaps even most, the job loss would've bankrupted them through various debts such as mortgage regardless of medical debt balance.

  38. So check, look at the US and Canada and see which country has more bankruptcies following serious injury or illness and by what margin.

  39. I don't think the law of big numbers applies to sports stats. Not when there's non-random variables that impact the outcome so heavily.

  40. Sure but the argument is that as compared to the null hypothesis there's a discrepancy. The next question would involve the cause of that discrepancy.

  41. I had Covid once and that was labor day weekend of 2020. I am unvaxxed. Some people I know that are vaxxed and fully boosted have had C19 about 6 times now. I am out in the public almost daily. Based on all the pearl clutchers, i should have died by now.

  42. Survivorship bias mean anything to you at all?

  43. It’s a very short distance from “chose at 18 years old” and “was compelled beyond any sense of reason to accumulate lifelong debt”

  44. You might choose to take on loans at 18 but you've essentially locked that decision in much earlier. Not sure about everyone else but the highschool I went to had you stream into academic, university bound, course or applied, trade bound, course as you entered grade 11 where most people were 16. It would have been hard to pivot at 18, for me at least, as I was already in 1st year.

  45. For what,it's worth, that's 8 weeks of full time work at minimum wage against just over two years. So if you had no other expenses you could, have paid off your tuition over the summer and still have had pocket money left over if you were a boomer but would now need. To work a full time job for more than half your undergraduate degree somehow to make it work.

  46. No the argument is we get bounced in the first round due to missing a key piece that we could have picked up at the tdl.

  47. Sure? I guess? I'm not sure that means we should stop trading assets for a better chance, especially with Matthews having a career year.

  48. Because you're mostly wrong and whitewashing a pretty aweful organization on the strength of having watched a clip. The Mormon church excommunicates lgbtq+ people and forces their families to either leave with them or shun them forever.

  49. Nah, if that was the intention they had to move hom before his NMC kicked in or move Nylander instead of re-signing. Treliving/Shanny are absolutely going to try to re-sign Marner no matter what.

  50. It boils down to the fact that the Leafs are built to be an offensive powerhouse and when they can’t score their way out of trouble they are fucked, which is exactly what happened. Losing a 1 goal game with a team built to score is like a team built to be defensive losing by 4. It’s bad no matter how you slice it.

  51. Were definitely worse on Defence this year compared to last. The only codicil to that is that Keefe may be deploying the Defencemen we have more effectively with Holl out of the picture but there's no guarantee of that.

  52. What do I want or what do I think will happen?

  53. I did miss that distinction. But I do not see an issue. Changing his opinion on Severus Snape is NOT the same as changing your opinion on Slytherin House. Slytherin was still on the wrong side at the end of the Battle of Hogwarts. I would expect Harry Potter to have negative views of Slytherin. I don’t understand why people would expect that to change….

  54. Because he explicitly states that he's ok with Slytherin house at the end of the real books?
