Gurranq is the name Maliketh took after the shattering. Basically, a part of the rune of death got stolen from Maliketh by Ranni and it was made into the daggers used by the black knife assassins. The same group killed Godwyn's soul and killed Ranni's actual body (so she wouldn't be tied to the Greater Will). Maliketh was ashamed that he let a part of the rune of death get stolen so he bound it to his hand. You can actually see it on Gurranq's left hand at the Bestial Sanctum. As a result of this, he started craving for deathroot, which is actually the stolen part of the rune of death that sprouted and spread from Godwyn's body.

Even if it can't, daggers made from the rune of death can still be used, it doesn't have to be a black knife assassin that uses it. The lands between were also a warzone and Malenia is an 8ft tall lady with several golden prosthetics and also a living biological weapon so Finlay had to carry a really heavy bioweapon while fighting people. In addition, she was also fighting in Caelid before Malenia went bloom.
Having the ability to do something doesn’t always mean you ALWAYS do it. In the book I think Palpatine drugged him or something before killing him, maybe even in his sleep (haven’t actually read it). I think of it more like, Mike Tyson has the ability to kick my ass, but I could beat him if the odds were massively stacked in my favor, like tying him up in chains and giving me a sword.

No he did not actually curse himself it was Marika based off his remembrance iirc. The Black Knives were Numen women rumored to have connections to Marika and then there's the fact it's implied that the entire shattering was planned by Marika through the church of Marika echoes and the fact she tasked Hewg with creating a Godslaying weapon. It's a whole rabbit hole.
I read the remembrance and Marika betraying Maliketh was probably her shattering the Elden Ring, not binding the rune to his body. It seems like Maliketh bound the rune to himself because he was ashamed that he let it get stolen. Whoever that tries to steal it has to kill him for it, which is what we did. An unintended side effect was him craving deathroot, so the rune could be whole again.
In her defense, what else could she do? She still needs food and better to take blood from criminals than doing it to innocent people. Either way, she still is very suspicious with the whole Potema thing.

I would say Durge and Gale are around level 17-18. Karlach at level 16 as she was one of Zariel's top soldiers. Wyll at level 14-15 as he made solo trips to Avernus to kill devils. Lae'zel and Shadowheart are tricky as one is 22 years old but spent time at the astral plane while the other 48 years old but was consistently mind wiped since she was around 10 years old. I would say both are around level 10-11. Astarion is also tricky as while he is around 230+ years old but he was abused by Cazador, forced to only eat rats for nutrition and had to seduce people to bring them to Cazador for his ritual. I would say maybe level 7-8.

I would argue that Malenia's feats are impressive considering she is fully blind and lost all of her limbs except for her left arm and top half of her right leg due to the rot goddess.
They should have made the Elden Beast an optional boss. The Greater Will doesn't really give a shit on what is taken and added to the Elden Ring, hence why Marika wasn't stabbed when she took out the Rune of Death. Only after she broke the Elden Ring was she stabbed by the Elden Beast, like how it stabs us with its grab attack.
This all makes one question what Ottos true endgame was. Does this squad stop at just Osborn? Or do they recruit once Li likely leaves and go after this universes Avengers?

Sekiro then Elden Ring. Mostly because you don't need to go through half the level to reach the boss again after dying. Sekiro has the grapple hook and fast movement so getting to bosses again is fast. Elden Ring either has graces or stakes of Marika near boss rooms.
