  1. Don't get discouraged if you don't end up getting a lot of projects. Some days are just horribly slow. Today was like that for me and I just had a bunch of .30 to .80 cent 2 minute projects show up all at once from a class at the University of Michigan.

  2. I've noticed specific days or times tend to be slow as well, usually holidays etc

  3. I feel like I did about 20 mins ago but I can't recall for sure.

  4. It was really strange. Found the first one but then started getting weirded out and returned it.

  5. I found that shampoo in the sink tends to work the best. They tend to get a lot of body oil built up on them from where they sit.

  6. I've only ever seen this online. Most I would guess are trying to show that they aren't like Evangelical etc. In my opinion though this hurts ecumenicalism and further convinces evangelicals that the Catholic Church is pagan or something.

  7. Some Catholics don't believe in it, but I would say most do, myself included. A lot of the controversy comes from Evangelicals who for some reason decide that every word in Genesis must be taken at it's absolute literal reductive value. They tend to be the loudest Christians in the room, hence everyone thinks what they believe is Christian Doctrine.

  8. Zoos in the western world are actually really amazing places (the accredited ones) . Most provide enrichment for the animals and have helped with mountains of research and preservation. They can also serve as great tools for raising awareness of conservation issues. Remember also that animals are not humans (despite what the secular world sometimes thinks).

  9. I get this too. Temptations from my past come back about this hour even though once I'm fully awake I find them completely ridiculous. Recognize it and and fight realizing that it will pass shortly.

  10. I feel ya. My youngest has her first birthday on Good Friday. We moved it to Saturday and are just doing something more subdued with immediate family.

  11. I'm kinda split honestly. I really like that he calls out the rad trad clickbaiters that are so anxious to make anything into a big episode. This is helpful in calming some people down when the secular news takes something and runs with it. I do dislike his approach sometimes though and how he goes after people who are generally accepted as more middle ground.

  12. You cannot sell a relic, but you can sell the reliquary. So what you are paying for is the medal those relics are in.

  13. We have some close friends in a similar situation. The wife is finishing up residency right now and the husband stays home to care for their 2 young kids. You shouldn't feel ashamed at doing this whatsoever, in fact I would call it heroic sacrifice for your future family. This seems like the best thing to do to ensure the well being of your family. Keep in mind that this will probably not be forever either, especially if you don't homeschool.

  14. It's possible that someone in the past did, but there is no solid evidence. If you think you may have come in contact with a rabid or even possibly rabid animal get to a doctor now!

  15. There are only three things I can think of this referring to:

  16. Could also be the obelisk in the center. Simple explanation, we claim this pagan thing in the name of Christ the one true God! It now belongs to him and is a testament to his glory.

  17. Certain professions are required to work on Sundays. It would be a different story if you were voluntarily working on Sundays out of a greedy desire.

  18. I might be wrong with this, but wouldn't an argument be that the incarnation radically changed this as it did so many other things? After all, Jesus would have had to dwell in a house etc. This is essentially the argument St. John Damascene makes against the Iconoclasts who were destroying images of Christ saying it violated the Commandments. That since God had made an image of himself in becoming man this was now possible and permitted.

  19. Honestly the best passive way to learn a lot of these arguments on a broad spectrum will be listening to programs like Catholic Answers in your spare time. There are a few other similar programs on EWTN radio as well, and Bishop Barron's older youtube videos address a lot of these.

  20. Feeling gross that I only remember to wash mine every few months or so now....

  21. For stolen goods that cannot be returned, restitution in the monetary realm is usually what is recommended. Often if this cannot be done practically or safely to the person they belonged to, a lot of confessors will recommend donations to the poor etc. I would really recommend you set up a private meeting with a trusted spiritual advisor to discuss this more in depth. There is a lot to unpack, and sometimes the quick advice from normal confession doesn't give enough guidance on the situation.

  22. My wife converted a few months before we got married. While she definitely believes in Catholicism now, she still struggles with some things that Cradle Catholics see as normal or not a big deal. ie doubts still creep in from time to time. That said, when we were dating, all the questions you mentioned came up. (actually some evangelical family members were trying to convince her worse things about the Catholic faith).

  23. Definitely look into different NFP methods like Marquette. Most dioceses that I'm aware of usually teach Creighton for marriage prep but it doesn't work well for everyone. It might also be worthwhile to find an Ob/Gyn that works with NFP as well. It's amazing how Pro-Woman this technology is and how many problems it has helped solve.

  24. Marquette method helped my wife and I so much after our first child. Especially since she was having some mental health issues. Up front costs are a bit high but the science behind it is super solid and common sense to understand.

  25. I feel like our longing for God can manifest (especially at the beginning) in many different ways. Your revulsion that you feel towards modern life is rooted in a realization and rejection of the falsehoods that you see. Basically, you realize that something is missing in the rampant consumerism and hedonism of the world at large and that's not a bad thing. There's even a growing trend among atheists and agnostics towards things like Stoicism.

  26. I question if the Brown Scapular is "lost". Also Rorate Masses seem to be making a steady comeback. A fair number of dioceses in the US host at least one.

  27. It depends on what you are looking for/how into the weeds you want to get. I would say anything from Catholic Answers is going to be fairly dependable. Fr. Chris Alar also has the Divine Mercy Podcast where he gets into history some times as well (he did a really good contrast between Luther and St Therese). I believe Jimmy Akin also did a book on the early Church Fathers. I read a book last year called "Faith of the Fathers" about the Church history in England that covered Henry/Edward/Elizabeth really well.

  28. Jesus himself hints at certain parts of the Law being done away with in the future. Also what about when St. Peter is told that he can eat formally forbidden things? Christ's divinity is clearly shown in his sermon on the mount. The language he uses there is clear as day he is claiming authority only God can claim. I don't see an issue with him having a disagreement with the other apostles. There's no record of them formally condemning his teachings or various factions emerging like we would expect if it was an actual break.
