Went I to Computershare to investigate how to purchase GME directly from them and I am not able to find the ticker in the list.
go to make a purchase and then search GME. The search you used is apparently for searching computershare itself, not a specific stock.

You shouldn't scrape and scrounge, but the earlier the better. Especially if you are at a company that has 401K matching. Put in the minimum to maximize the match, and then increase it incrementally as you get older.
