No offence but it’s weird OP would find this an inconvenience. Youre only 1.5 hrs away not that far. It’s not much to ask for tbh. For me, if I really want a job I’d take this as a positive sign and be excited to meet the people and see the environment I will be working with/in.
I graduated college into the pandemic and so this is actually the first I’m hearing about a company doing this. Every other opportunity I’ve been offered has been offered with the intention of being fully remote and we were trying to not catch the virus
Bit of a PITA but not unreasonable for a company to want to see someone in person before extending an offer if they are only 1.5 hours away. For longer distances, the employer would be expected to pay for the plane ticket and/or hotel etc if needed. If you were good on zoom you should be good in person. The one point of concern is lack of conversation on compensation - could be you are going to get lowballed there.
I had interviewed for a different position just a few weeks prior to this— and I reapplied for the current position that I’m being considered for. And for the previous position they asked if a certain amount was enough and I said it would be. I’m hoping that they’re basing everything off of that instead of trying to lowball me tbh. I think I’ll make a phone call to check up on salary and everything tomorrow though
