Your guess is wrong. In many cases, paying for them to be there is taking care of them. As opposed to them rotting away in front of a TV with no company most of the day. My sister works in a “nursing my home” and most of the folks there are happy and stay busy.
If it’s a closed system amd not connected to your existing plumbing, a simple icing inhibitor mixed in should do the trick. If connected to your house water supply, heat tape should be a simple solution when the time arrives.
