Bearence

  1. Like their term "compassionate conservatism" just drives home the fact that conservatives have no compassion by default. They have to work at it just to appear compassionate. lol

  2. Compassionate conservatism means they feel bad at how some people suffer under the policies they champion, but not enough to reconsider whether they should be championing them.

  3. I wouldnā€™t get pissed nearly as bad if ā€œwill they get mad at a Christian themed birthdayā€ wasnā€™t just an outright dog whistle for ā€œI hate gay people and while I wish they didnā€™t exist I really long for pre-2000s where they were so marginalized we could pretend they didnā€™t exist.ā€

  4. For me it's the assumption that every single rainbow-coloured item is gay-themed, let alone a personal attack on straight people. They've been dog-whistling so long they can't imagine a world in which everything around them isn't automatically a dog whistle.

  5. No! They can't buy me off with a magical horse.

  6. Itā€™s not weird for a father to kiss his son on the cheekā€¦ itā€™s just a weird photo.

  7. I don't even think it's a weird photo. It's a staged one, most assuredly, but that doesn't necessarily translate into weird.

  8. Itā€™s free? But also $2.95? But I get it first and I have to promise to pay you?

  9. Free for 5 days. This is one of those cases where you have to read the fine print (only the print isn't so fine, it's just purposefully placed in a part of the ad that doesn't seem like it's connected to the deal; ad men in the 40s could be quite sneaky).

  10. I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that in the late 90s/early 00s, Starbucks expanded under the concept that they wanted to be the new town commons in every community. That was the exact wording they used. When the discussion would invariably turn towards the fact that Starbucks as a for-profit business would be expecting people to pay them for the right to use their space (even if it's just the price of a coffee), they waved it all away as something that wasn't important. Flash forward 20 years or so and now Starbucks have slowly been converting themselves into a pick-up service. At least 90% of the Starbucks in my city, for example, have minimal to no seating.

  11. IANAL, but I assume the Boards hired one or two for this, so can a lawyer tell me how this is can possibly be successful? This is worse than trying to take on big tobacco.

  12. Their standards are pretty low!

  13. Their standards are pretty precise: "Will enforcing our rules in this case cost us money?"

  14. Remember when it was voting for someone who you supported and not against someone you detested?

  15. That has never happened in the history of the US. Because there has never been a candidate that anyone has ever agreed with 100%. You vote for the person that most closely matches your views or that presents the highest chance of moving you towards what you want the country to look like.

  16. I'd seen this before, but it was a straight man saying "women won't date me because I'm conservative" and getting the same response.Ā

  17. People of all sexualities being rejected for their shitty political positions is the most ironic of equalities.

  18. Some people are so lazy. They can't even be born into a rich family and then blame others. How hard can it be?

  19. I don't even understand why their family isn't rich. All they had to do was sell off some of the antiques and art they own so they could purchase a profitable business or maybe some real estate. Easy peasy.

  20. My mom was listening to Eminem and Chili Peppers when their popular albums came out. I thought that was cool as fuck.

  21. My mom was once heard singing the lyrics to Closer by nine Inch Nails when she thought she was alone. It was indeed cool but I really didn't need to hear her singing that she wants to fuck like an animal.

  22. That's a valid question and one that thinkers in both Socialist and Capitalist camps grapple with. The answer is a very long conversation that has been going on for more than a century so it's way too long for a comment or even a series of comments. So to provide you with an answer without bogging down this post, here are two sources that discuss both Marx's struggle with the concept of the division of labour:

  23. This is incredible. This person says "You leftists think the Drinker has a very narrow set of conservative audience but you don't understand! We only watch him for his very narrow conservative appeal!"

  24. I refer to this as the idiot or asshole conundrum. Is this person so much of an idiot that they can't see how incredibly stupid their argument is? Or are they such an asshole that they know how stupid it is and go ahead and say it anyway because it supports the narrative they embrace? I refuse to say whether I think they're the idiot or the asshole, though, and usually let them decide for themselves which side of the conundrum they fall into.

  25. I find that the answer is pretty much invariably "little of column a, little of column b" and the question is really just which of the two is pushing them over the line in a given case.

  26. Oh, certainly. It's a pie chart with a much bigger slice on one side or the other. But invariably that pie is a shit pie and we all have to smell its odour aroma.

  27. Isnā€™t everyone nowadays. Yikes - the purpose of the video is to show you how cringe it is. Cue the man with the camera below him. After a certain age this isnā€™t attractive.

  28. Someoneā€™s comment on Reddit doesnā€™t represent everyone elseā€™s opinion? Is that what youā€™re saying?? Gasp. šŸ™„Iā€™m glad youā€™re advocating for him. Maybe heā€™ll see this and want to fuck you now? We should @ him. I envision it going like thisā€¦ You: ā€œsomeone on Reddit thinks your video is cringe and I told them that their opinion is actually wrong and that itā€™s hot.ā€ BasicBrandtbareback dude: ā€œThank you so much do you want to recreate it??ā€ Literally the purpose and genre of the original video is to point out how cringe this POV is. šŸ˜¬

  29. Well look at you, acting even more dickish than you did in your original comment. I suppose just copping to your bad attitude and moving on was not as satisfying as doubling down. But hey, you go on, make yourself happy being the kind of person that adds negativity into the world. I applaud your commitment.

  30. Considering that this sub is for people that use the TP platform to sell their merch, I don't think you're going to find anyone that'll say it's a scam. It's not a scam but even if it were, who here would admit to that?

  31. I was born in the mid-70's and I remember this logo still being used on signage when I was very little.

  32. That's because the mid-70s were only about 20-25 years after BK was created. That would be like stores today having the same signage they had in 2000.

  33. Is it though? There's a bunch of co-ops, subsidized housing and rentals right by Little Norway. There are definitely condos in the area, but I wouldn't call this a rich neighbourhood.

  34. The dog already had a dangerous dog designation so the police probably already knew exactly where to find her.

  35. A decade ago there was a discussion in one of the Toronto subs about off-leash dogs and this one person said in all sincerity, "People need to realize that their dog is not special and needs to be held to the same rules as all other dogs."

  36. I get the mortgage is a lot for two people so... why can't they rent out your room once you go?

  37. And to piggyback on this comment, they call her lazy for not getting a second job to pay the "rent" but I see nothing about either of them having a second job. Perhaps if the mortgage is a lot for two people, those two people should get second jobs.

  38. She doesn't have to ask a question so your comment makes no sense.

  39. I guess this sub has just become a liberal fuckfest. Every video now is the same. Time to go.

  40. You really don't have to tell us you're leaving, you can just leave. Or stay if you wish. I guarantee you, no one cares either way.

  41. You don't have to expect intelligent conversation to think that lowest-effort exchange is a turn-off.

  42. Iā€™m willing to die on this hill. This reaction just strengthens the rightā€™s knee jerk ā€œfake newsā€ response because they read the full quote and realize that itā€™s not as catastrophic as itā€™s being framed. Yes he incites violence frequently, and that language is violent, but given the context of the full quote it looks like the media is having a chicken little moment.

  43. The issue here isn't abortion, it's consent. The man administered the pill to her without her knowledge or consent.

  44. Itā€™s a great thing to critically reflect and critique the side you do support. If you donā€™t do it for what you believe in how are you going to expect the other side to do the same.

  45. There's a big difference between critically reflecting on the side you support and pulling the "both sides" nonsense you're doing here.

  46. Ahh yes, Obama - famous for calling people childish names...

  47. Let's not forget that even before Trump was their messiah, these folks who so desperately want to return to a time of civility in politics

  48. Look at you moving those goalposts. You said that (and I quote) "the majority of people who play video game are straight white males". You didn't say anything about mobile or the origin of the games in question until Prince-Lee provided evidence that your statement was wrong. If you have to narrow down what you're claiming to make your point true then you don't really have a point.

  49. Thank you. I wasn't sure if this was one of those "You're not wrong but you're an asshole" situation. Like what if that was his work and I'm preventing him from creating a strong portfolio to find his next job? But I still don't want to risk my job.

  50. If it was his work he should be going through proper channels to get it. There's no way he thought you were proper channels. That alone makes you NTB.

  51. I donā€™t even take unplanned calls, if they canā€™t give me a few hours heads up at least then itā€™s not that important and can wait until tomorrow. I got corn and chilis to eat šŸ˜¤

  52. Right on! There's a rule in our home office that everyone follows: Is it on fire? Is someone dead? If the answers to both questions is "no" then it isn't an emergency and can wait until I finish my sandwich.

  53. Do you make the exception for actively dying because I'm on the fence for this excuse?

  54. I think actively dying is ok; I mean, maybe you're the one who can save them if you aren't in a meeting that could be handled with an email? /shrug
