The deep truth, long known, is that successful liberal enlightenment and authoritarian regimes undermine each others' legitimacy just by existing. In a world made 'small' by technology, everyone is everyone else's neighbor, and so there is no real equilibrium point in the very long run. Moreover, this dynamic is accentuated and accelerated by the fact that the West, having long understood it, still seeks to make a world safe for democracy. As long as the West promotes a World order that tilts towards liberal democratic norms, there will be no real peace with the CCP.
